1UZ no idle, running very rich + missfire

Its great you solved the problem. One pic or video of your engine and the wrong AFM could have been identified saving you all this time. Just for reference and hence why I said to remove AFM, they do and will run fine without them. If they don't you likely also have ignition and / or TPS issues.

How to replicate this exhaust sound

This also sounds good, twin 2.5 inch mandrel, centre 3 inch 'balance pipe' Sorry don't have sound file,

Nothing is 100 %. I doubt exact same issue with different ecu. I would be doing basic things like checking your Fuel flow ? simple things first.

1UZ no idle, running very rich + missfire

Cam sensor 2 a bit high, but then they should run on one only. can unplug it and shouldn't have any effect ? Mine have been around 1K cold around 1.3 k hot. What happens when you crack the throttle ? Check plugs, sounds like its running lean to me ? You sure you have plenty of fuel flow ...

How to replicate this exhaust sound

What makes you think it will drone ? The exhaust shop should be able to advise if they can't go somewhere else. I have twin 2 1/4 on an SC, absolutely no drone, one of the best sounding 1UZ's you will hear. Minimal bends , X pipe, mandrel bent rear to twin straight through's. Make sure you use...

How to replicate this exhaust sound

Has rear mufflers only, no middle mufflers. I think twin 2 1/4 to X pipe to dual straight throughs sounds the best.

1UZ no idle, running very rich + missfire

Its still shouldn't surge when the IACV is unplugged ? You should be able to disable O2's, AFM, IACV and engine should idle fine if all other sensors are working, Cam, crank, tps, water temp sender etc. I still thing something else is going on, probably multiple issues. Video the engine...

1UZ no idle, running very rich + missfire

Just unplug IACV, you can always fix it slightly open for testing purposes. You can do this simply for testing and manually setting the idle. There's something else going on.

1UZ no idle, running very rich + missfire

When you shut the engine off does the IACV click a few times and perform its reset ? Just unplug when the car is surging, idle should then stabilize and given RPM.

1UZ no idle, running very rich + missfire

I have rebuilt quite a few of those IACV's, both for 1JZ and 1UZ. Very easy to do, you just need to drill and punch out the roll pin on the later model. Unless they are super clean they cause issues. Sounds like IACV from what you have said. Won't be vacuum leak, disconnecting AFM will...

How to replicate this exhaust sound

Sounds like a twin 2.5 inch, possibly H pipe or X pipe. No centre mufflers, straight through rears, probable cat delete.

1UZ no idle, running very rich + missfire

Are you running o2 sensors ? if so unplug them. Just to eliminate them. They can cause idle issues when up to operating temp and the car will run fine without them. Normally surging will be AFM related, but if it still does it when disconnected you have ruled that out. Triple check every...

1st gen 1UZ fuel pressure adaptor

So I end up simply using a fitting from my Fuel pressure testing kit, just one of those 'cheap' sets but has worked well on a number of cars so far. I didn't think I had a fitting that would work on 1UZ's. For reference it was the M12 X 1.25 banjo, then tapped into rear left banjo behind fuel...

1UZ no idle, running very rich + missfire

Sounds like you are on track. Make sure you update after new ecu.
