so I was reading lextreme's starter replacement tutorial before I dove into the starter swap.

I picked up on the needing a special snap-on tool to do the job right.

i said to myself: screw that!

the part where you use your fingers to loosen those starter bolts once you break them free.. what a waste of time.

my solution?

simple:
ls400bolts.jpg

dremel tool + cutoff wheel + bolts = win

cut a slit in the end of the bolts big enough to slip a flathead screwdriver in for the freakin win.

this part sticks out of the starter bosses so there is no worry about weakening the bolts.. the stress is not an issue.

after cutting these, putting the starter back in took all of 30 seconds, and subsequent starter swaps (god forbid) would take less time as well.

I should note, that if you have access to a flextool attachment for a dremel, it may be possible to cut these slits before you break the bolts free, thus saving time removing them in the first place :slaphappy
