ok first topic here so, im sorry if i get something wrong.

i have myself a 5veu motor out of a 97 toyota century with 20Ks on it... i have however got a problem as i dont have ignitors, complete loom :censored: (chopped at complete loom junction) or air flow meter.

no importers are interested in just getting me a loom etc. and the engines are going for over a grand so i dont want another one. Ill be running megasquirt atm and am just wondering if anyone else has had experience with this motor or any hints for it... even spare parts would be greatly appreciated.

the motor is getting turboed, thats why im running the megasquirt.

thanx guys
Evan

A V, wow! You're talking very old shcool now! I've never seen one. For that matter Toyota hasn't sold one in North America since long before I was born!

Any Australian members help him out?

5veu

I believe this is the engine series.

V series (V8 (90 degrees), toothed wheel, 2.6-4.0L, 1963-)

V OHV 2 63-67 2599
3V OHV 2 67-73 2981
4V OHV 2 73-78 3376
4V-E OHV 2 79-83 3376
5V-EU OHV 2 83-90+ 3995 162@4400 213@3600 87 84 8.6:1
5V-EU OHV 2 86 3995 190@4800 239@3600 87 84 8.6:1
5V-EU OHV 2 97-98 3995 165@4400 213@3600 87 84

:D Yes, that's the v block family. Nice copy/paste from kalalahti's page-o-mass-toyota-information. LoL!

Eh. I hope the international (to me) members can help you out. They replaced those with the F M, FZ, VZ & UZ engine blocks here in the US ages ago.
Last of those we had in the US are the very old 4v & 4v-e's from pre Toyosrme's Birth Land Cruiser's.

I think those old Toyota Century's are cool looking. To me it's like, "Toyota built a Buick Park Avenue fixing all the broken crap, poor materials & poor engineering like Mazda fixed the traditional English roadster, ala Miata.".

And in second thought. Noone in North America should know this engine to begin with minus maybe random importers. I thought they used this n some of the old Land Cruisers, they didn't. It was a Crown Century only, which itself was never imported into the US. Minus amybe some grey imports, who knows.

thats the one.... never came out in oz either...japanese only, but i here they are quite sort after for the strength and tunability in NZ in powerboats.

pulled apart the wiring loom today and about 20 wires fell to the ground so i need to start a fresh as they have chopped it good.

or does anyone know of a good auto sparky in brisbane who would be up for a challenge

it's the mini-hemi - 3.4L if i remember correctly.

out of the old toyota century's and such.

rodders used to use them in T buckets because they're all alloy and look like a "stock block" hemi and such weigh far less than a hemi and a more economical.

good engines - the 5MGE pistons are a direct swap in from what i can remember.

thats what i like to hear.... they only weigh 130 KGs (apparently) i dont beieve this but yeah light alloy amd have like 16mm head bolts...they are a 2 bolt main as i found out today, and the rods are the same as a small 4 cylinder motor.....

its a 4 litre dude too.

The 4V is the 3.4L version.

5V is the 3.9L version.

I was involved with a company in NZ that was trying to market turn key kit cars in the early 90's, we were going to use a 5V and a 5 speed W57 box in our Cobra replica.

The Australian Crown Website once had some photos posted up and I think someone had a couple of engines.

With the MS system it shouldn't be too hard to knock up your own loom.

If you can assemble the MS you can build al oom.

The megasquirt can drive coils directly using the vb921 coil driver IC that is fitted to the ver3 PCB. or if you need more than one you could switch to msextra. so you don't need the standard igniters. they have released ms2extra now. I plan to run my 1uzfe off MS2extra using two internal coil drivers to drive the twin coils and dizzys. I already have the megasquirt and engine just need to build the hot rod to go around it.

I wouldn't like to necro such an old thread but I'm considering getting a 5V-EU since it's cheap. I understand that it shares alot with T engines, but not the pistons..

What parts from other Toyota engines could I use? 5M was suggested, but I don't think the bore size matches. 1JZ/2JZ pistons are slightly smaller too.

The 5V has an 8:1 compression ratio, maybe I could just slap a turbo on and call it a day.
