Ok this is a difficult mod, but this weekend I got the confirmation it is possible. We had to machine the LS400 pumpkin to accept a torsen locker, also put in the 3.2 gears from a GS400 5 speed. Pretty much custom. If one of you guys can host the pics I can put them on here.

Arnout, why not put them on Photobucket and link to them?

Sounds like a pretty groovy mod!

I used to post them on my own forum on supras.nl and then link them, but a bunch of tossers were constantly (24 hours a day) complaining and trolling on my forums, so I had to close it.
I dont have any hosting accounts with tinypic, photobucket or other sites.

hi arnout

what is the torsen diff out off.
are you changing the diff or just the center?

check out my thread, i had put a torsen diff out off 97 supra into a ufc11 ls400.
wasnt that hard to do? if you have it up on a hoist, that is hahahah

if you need some info, let me know, an i will help you where i can

:sgrin:There is No substitute for cubic inch, except for BOOST !!!!:sgrin::burnout:
"91 LS400" Argo rods, CP pistons 9:1, Custom Tighte Cams, Whipple supercharger 20psi, Torsen Lsd,
Dual TB's, Whiteline swapbars, 97 RZ Supra brakes, Airbag & controller

I machined the single eyed UCF10/UCF20 pumpkin to accept the A/T Supra torsen locker.
Used a gear set from a GS430 (3.2) and the frankenstein diff was complete!

I see... so my 1998 LS400 has twin eyed pumpkin.... is that how you'd say it ?

Well, you can call it whatever you like. Certainly there is no name for it "officially", but here's the difference. You can see my 91 differential on the right next to a 92 SC300 diff on the left. My 91 has one front mount close to the pinion and the 92 has two much further out. I assume the later years LS are like the SC, but don't have first hand knowledge. I really makes no difference unless you are trying to swap parts around that are of a different configuration (like I did). In my case, I had to weld up two new mounts on the subframe to use the SC diff.

Pumpkin LSD

Yeah the '98 LS has the twin eyed.. at some stage of the game i plan to fit a 1996-2002 Supra Auto TT or NA Torsen 2 diff centre and use my gearing. Its the thing i most dislike about my baby.... in the wet in particular... youv'e got all this power and can't do anything with it....
I had a 1990 Cressida Grande that had an LSD as OEM and it was bloody fantastic.. The 7MG-E had maybe 170HP at best but in the rain and on wet or dirt roads it was like a well tuned rally car... geeez it was good fun...
Before i bought the Lex, it never occured to me that it wouldn't have an LSD, so you can imagine my dissapointment on day one when i realised it had an open diff... :(((((((((((((((((((((((((
One thing nobody seems to be able to tell me... if i obtain a Torsen 2 centre, do i have to change the side shafts or will they remain my STD items ?

FastEgg., I'm in the same boat as you, I had LSD rwd motors and moved to an LS400 vvti, shame to see the VSC light everytime the wheel is past 2'oclock and the pedal is past a 1/4.

I have also been researching this and a Torsen T1 from a mk4 supra TT AT or NA should fit.. 200mm crown ring etc..

What I cant find is confirmation that the '99 LS uses a 10 bolt crown ring. SOme of the supra TT 's have a 12 Bolt crown ring, and i wanna make sure I can reuse my existing gearset.

Then of course there is the fuss about ensuring all the shims are swapped out and all float is within tolerence.-- got no where with that yet, other than its important.

Supra LSD

Only the Supra 6 speed manual used the 220mm 12 bolt crown wheel.
I feel quite certain that our '99 LS's will have the 10 bolt 200mm crown wheel so the Torsen1 or Torsen2 centre should fit with our gearing swapped over. All the shimming, preloading etc i will have done by whoever fits the diff as i know its a specialist job so i'll get a diff / trans guy to do it. (all this is based on my humble research)
My cars off the road at present with damage and i'm trying to get a front half cut. When's its fixed and back on the road, the diff mod will be the first thing i'll do, followed by a bigger front sway-bar....... :)

According to this, its still a 10 bolt. Best to have a pro shop set up your diff. Its not really a DYI if you want it done right unless you have or buy the various shims to set the lash properly, and a bearing puller, press etc....

that link you sent me shows a 1999 LS diff but it isnt... the '99 diff has 2 mounting lugs at the front of the diff housing and the one in the picture only has one eg:UCF10 diff..... :(

In the uk we have a special model MkIV ... DHP, I've bought one last weekend, transforms the drive, unbelievable more responsive, much quicker to turn in.. im blown away, more improvement than I expected.

That acheives the turn in by a 1mm thicker rear anti roll bar.. SO out of interest, what are you hopeing to get from a thicker front bar?

When i bought the car (175,000km) suspension was way soft so i fitted a set of heavy duty Bilstiens... this made a considerable difference but steering too slow and unresponsive..... so i decided it needed a heavier front bar to try to tighten up the steering.....and it still rolls too much... (there's a mob here called K-mac that makes sway bars for everything and if they don't, if you provide the origional bar they will copy it.... for the LS, 3mm bigger which i didn't think was big enough but they assure me 3mm is heaps) .......
i guess i'm trying to create a 'sports' VVTi. We have lots of round-abouts here in Australia, and instead of slowing right down to drive thru one, id like to just 'flick' the car thru..... as it stands, if you attack a round-about too fast, the LS complains and protests so i figure if i put on a 3mm bigger front bar and try to speed the steering up, reduce body roll, and ubove all, just see what difference it makes.....

PS: There is 2 types of Bilstiens for the VVTi. heavy duty 30% heavier and Sport 50% heavier... i thought 50% would be too much so i opted for the 30% heavier jobbies.
In hindsight, i should have got the 50% as the 30's arn't firm enough, their heavier than stock and would suit a retired gent.... but i needed the 50's.....i bought them online from the USA and cost $600AUD delivered to my front door and $300 to have them fitted...

Mr Skullface

What's DHP ? and your talk about good turn ins and good responsive drive, are you refering to the LSD ?.... i'm not sure what your talking about.... :(
