Squealing idler/tensioner on startup

About 1 in 3 times when I start my 1UZFE when it's stone cold a tensioner or idler will squeal for about 20 seconds then go away.

I am contemplating a front end tear down to do water pump and cambelt. I priced bits at the local auto store and they don't carry the drive belt idler or tensioner.

I would hate to do this full job and still have the noise as I suspect that it's a drive belt rather than timing belt problem. If I don't need to do the front end I won't.

Anyone have to replace a drivebelt idler or tensioner?

We often replace the bearing on the tensioner and idler. They press out and the local bearing shop has replacements - be careful removing the tensioner bolt - easy to break the housing. We use genuine parts for the cambelt as they are the cheapest and best we have found. Cheers

Thanks Gloverman, do you just take the old bearings in and they are able to ID them from the originals?

The idler bolt is left hand thread.
