My ecu has function for launch rev limiter, Mini spool can be great for drag racing, but how will it behave on the track? Yes it still has leave springs, fitted with slapper bars, no panhard rod, traction not to bad, but road holding leaves much for the imagination.

Have you had any success in modifying the awful 1uz heads? Going NA this is my biggest concern.
My car was used as club / rallycross .. Escorts are driven sideways yes a GOOD LSD but if you have heaps of torque etc spool will be fine..
Slapper bars are drag racing.. Don't do a lot for handling..Can limit travel which creates oversteer.. The last thing you need..
Good lsd/ spool and suspension mods can totally change how these things handle.. I used V6 Capri front struts, Fiat 124 Sports rear axle for disc brakes, welded diff as spools where not available back then..
Cams make a big difference...
I'm going CNC ported heads..

Have you had any sucsess in modifing the auwful 1uz heads? Going NA this is my bigest concern.

What is so auwful ? about 1uz heads ????

The main problem is manifolds and valve size.

Also have to take issue with XR8, a spool on a circuit is a handful to drive.
I have driven V8 sedans to 'open wheelers' with spools, and much prefer a cam and pawl.

Great for drags though.

YES agree with V8 sedans.. Front heavy cars understeer, a spool with wrong set up suspension will make them worse..
In most cases there are LSD centres available for them and clutch type as in 9" Ford diff, even then if they did a light diff LSD won't hold to high power / torque.. Escorts oversteer with any decent power..
As said a locked diff won't be too good on a near std car ...
A 1uz Escort is powerful..
As an example if you see [Scroll down] http://www.seriousbiz.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=171 The black XR8 turbo is my car.. With std lsd set up tight! Still wheel spins out of corners on the track, strip..
This was at Oran Pk Sydney..

If you decide to go forced induction, I suggest supercharging. My setup has proven to work quite well. I've run a best of 12.62 and trap around 110-112mph. The car weighs 3728 lbs with a 1/4 tank of gas and me in it.

With Lextreme's fish bracket, a centrifugal blower can be installed pretty quick and easy. Not sure how it would work for your setup but thought I'd give my 2 cents.
