Nakamichi stereo problems

Yesterday my sound in my 92 sc400 pretty much completly vanished. You can turn the dial all the way up and just barely hear it and it sounds very distorted. Atenna comes up and display is fine. Any suggestions? It's a nakamichi premium sound unit all stock. Thanks in advance

There can be many causes -

1. Probably you have blown up the output capacitor.


2. Your speaker wires might be getting shielded. That would result in grounding of the current loop.

3. Your O/P amp IC has blown up and only one channel is working.

4. Your speaker coils / cones might have been damaged.

The 4th one is the most probable culprit IMHO.

Go through the issue list one by one and you will be able to pinpoint the real problem.

Jake is right on with the possibilities. I have owned two 92 SC's and three 1991 LS's and each one had destroyed speakers, but considering that your overall sound has suddenly disappeared, the deck or "radio" itself would be the 1st place I would look. My 1st LS had the Nak setup and it had a dedicated amp located in the trunk, below the cd changer. Its possible that the amp has gone bad too.
