Just started with converting E36 320D to Lexus V8 Auto. Motor fits very snugly in space and as far back as 4 pod oil burner. We were looking everywhere to find any info from anyone who's done this but not much luck. Head 1st into the build was the only way forward and so far so good. Engine mounts are easy, auto box cross member needs hardly any mods as it virtually lines up with bolt holes. Steering rod needs small offset & re-alignment, oil filter will be taken off the engine block & fitted in accessable space. It seems like the exhaust manifolds needs to turn down slightly more forward, easy job as this motor has the mild steel manifolds. The only major item so far is a major change to the sump, as this is sitting right on the cross member. The remanucaturing is in progress and i will report on the success of it next time. We will also report on what we find with the rest of the conversion as we progress. In summary, i would say this is not such a difficult conversion as it seemed initially
