1UZ Water Flow

The direction of the water flow through the radiator appears to be opposite to all the cars I have owned or worked on. Normally the hot water goes to the top of the radiator, but the way the thermostat is mounted the 1UZ has the hot water going to the bottom of the radiator.
Is this correct?

Yes the neck with the thermo stat mounted in it goes to the bottom of the radiator.

This is quite normal for late model cars now. It has a bypass type thermostat that lets the cold water into the engine with a foot valve that controls the bypass circuit, open when cold then closes the bypass circuit when the radiator circuit opens. I have a customer with an RX7 with 1uz which is plumbed incorrectly and just had a merc come in that a local performance/race shop also plumbed wrong. We are going to correct the merc. You will notice that the hot (top) hose is higher than the cold(lower) fitting. Cheers

The water flow still goes the same way.The only differance is the thermostat is in the bottom hose.Still runs exactly the same ie hot water comes out the top connection on the motor into the top tank of the rad,through the rad and back in the motor via the bottom hose(and past the t/stat).
