Hi

I'm about to fit a Toyota 3UZ V8 motor & A650E 5-speed auto trans into an older model pickup.

The VSS (vehice speed sensor) on the auto box is apparently a 2-wire inductive sensor, and plumbs into the main ECU harness, and as far as I'm aware of, can not be eliminated, as it is needed for the ECU and TCU's calculations.

It is a 2wd pickup, and there is no other location for a mechanical speedo pickup, for instance a transfer case.

I would like to retain the original gauge cluster, but how does one get the mechanical/cable-operated speedometer working, and calibrated?

Are there other gearbox tailhousings available, with locations for both types of speedo drives?

Regards

In situation like yours I retrofit new internals into factory instrument cluster and use my own pulse converter to convert pulses per mile and not cause interference with ecu

New internals? Or parts from other instrument clusters? Have you posted a thread covering this retrofit? Sounds like a great idea.

Nice product, does it matter whether it is a km/h speedometer?

Mine is not a Lexus so no I didn't post it on these forums
You can see some pictures here. They don't cover too much of the work, just show the idea and final result

Regarding my pulse converter, it can mate any "analog" speedometer (one without CAN bus) to almost any sensor. Frequency correction factor can be tuned on the go in very wide range. Despite its flexibility I make most of my sales in my country for a very short list of vehicles.
