Hi:

I need to replace the vavle cover gaskets on my SC400 and would like some directions or tips. It seems all the ancillary parts on top of the engine and the intake manifold need to be removed. Are there any hidden dangers?

Also, what gaskets need to be replaced "while you're in there"? I heard the metal intake manny gaskets are reusable. Are there also spark plug "seals" that need to be replaced? I'd rather do it all now then have to repeat the process later.

Thanks in advance.

1. Take out the spark plug cover
2. Take out the valve cover. There are about 8-10 10 mm screws

The cover should come right off. While you are changing the valve cover gaskets, you should also replace spark plug seals too. Those are attached into valve cover. Very simply DIY and will take about 45 minutes each side.

No major tools require. 10 mm socket will work.

For the passenger side you will need to take out the intake pipes and perhaps the throttle body. There is a kit available at your local Lexus dealer for head cover gaskets and spark plug gaskets.
