You got a s/c 20v? What s/c are you using? I have a 87 mr2 with a n/a 20v in it and I posed your same question a bit ago. I have yet to fully investigate it but I think the E-153 mr2 turbo gearbox will work although all the bolt holes may not line up.

Those cheap units will work fine. You'll find its the little things in a welder that make it much more pleasant to use and its the more expensive brands that have the details all worked out.

Can the stock oil pump handle that high of rpms.

I believe the foot control was optional. I forgot to say that it is a 220v unit. I like 220v units because of the power available for thick metals and can be run easily off household current. I don't know about Aussie voltage but our clothes dryers run off 220v and makes for a really easily...

An ac/dc Miller Econotig with a high freq. start is only about $1200 and will do aluminum fine.

Yeah, Bill Stong from the mr2 owners club did that swap. He justified it because the Northstar v8 was designed by yamaha just like the 4a and 3s engines in the mr2s. The northstar comes only with an automatic tranny which is something that I don't like. I was hoping for something easy and cheap...

Do they work like that, with the oil seals, filler points,and breathers (if any) meant for it being the other side up? I'll see if a late model sw20 tranny'll work.
