I have not been taken by a ricer yet....I just get abused by the more powerful V8's... Although a turbo'd early model Honda Civic hatchback gave me a good run for my money a year back...

These 2.0L ricers are super light in weight and that gives them the advantage over the heavier more powerful Lexus V8's...

Nothing like dragging up older threads for topic's conversation...

twice the power
twice the c.i.
but more than twice the weight

but, even if they can kick my a** on a 1/4 mile, they still drive some crappy civic, and I drive a LS (or SC) 400...

There are quite a few of them turning up NA in offroad in Aus... Im looking forward to taking them on!!! GRRR!!!! :p

I'm turning this thread around and swapping in a Honda, 16 valve, 4 cylinder, DOHC motor into my Lexus SC400 :tapedshut: and then am going to boost the H**L out of it.....I bet that swap has never been tried before.:hypnotized: ..Think of the reduced weight???:Eyecrazy:

Seriously speaking though - I've seen these little 4 bangers boosted and making 400whp...Not too bad for a light in weight 4 banger motor...

i think a Honda motor could make upwards of 500 whp on heavy water injection and good tuning. god knows, the new K series comes with a bedded crank.

i have to confess that my SC is somewhat of a ricer. last guy that owned it had 18 inch chromes and HIDs. I really hate those people running SOHC civics with bodykits hangin low off their asses and wings taller than me (i'm 6-4 btw) they think they know it all just because their car looks good (worse for people driving riced scions, hate those.) point is that its stupid, a waste of cash, and impratical. if only i had a V8 though...

The thing I hate most about the ricers is not that it's a four banger car, not that they look like a small tin can with wheels, stickers, decals, pink carbon fiber hoods, dash gauges, etc...It's the fact that they are front wheel drive..Can't stand front wheel drive cars..

Front wheel cars basically go against my religion..I would be committing a mortal sin by purchasing and owning a front wheel drive 4 banger....AWD is a different story though.....

Why are we even bothered about this? We don't have fast cars, we have luxury cruisers. If you want a fast car to compete then get a car with factory FI. Otherwise you're exercising yourself with frustration. I think a lot of you guys want to reinvent the wheel here ;)

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I bought my LS400 to drive in comfort. I use my Supra Turbo for speed.

Why not have a combination of both luxury and speed? Ask Lex about his LS400, it is luxury 4 door and will blow the doors off most four bangers...

My SC400 is the same....as well as many others on this forum...

because he has gone to the extreme trouble and expense of engineering a turbo kit for the car. it's an extremely difficult task and is suited for hardcore modders.

it's all in the gearing.

Lexus have moonward gearing (very tall and spaced) compared to a honda with short ratios all round.

shorten your diff ratio and watch the difference! - even in a stock vehicle.

a friend of mine had a stock family vehicle here in Australia and changed the diff ratio from an open wheeler 3.08:1 ratio to an LSD 3.7:1 ratio and his quarter mile times went from 16.8 to a 15.7 with NO OTHER MODS.

i daresay the same mods in a lexus would really get things moving.

And so would upping the oil pressure in the transmission - there's a lot of slip in stock autos, whereas hondas are mostly manual (here in Australia anyway!).

Very true Pro, the only problem with that is there really aren't any differential gearing options that are available for the Lexus 400's here in the states...I have looked...The only gearing change that is so minumal is found in the Torsen LSD supra LSD swap....

I would lower my gearing ratio if I could find an option that was available for my SC400...Can't find one so I am stuck with the Supra Torsen......

R200 NISSSAN Aaron? Come again?

Here in the States the only Nissans we have are -

Nissan Sentra
Nissan Maxima
Nissan 350z
Nissan 300Z tt
Nissan Titan truck
Nissan Pathfinder
Nissan Frontier
Nissan Xterra
Nissan Altima
Nissan Armada
Nissan Murango

That is all that comes to mind...

Pro which one? Any clue? As you know the car names are always different over seas...Via the Soarer and SC400...I don't know why they do that...How aggressive is the Nissan R200 gearing change? If you have no answers I will search...Sounds promising..

Except from factory we already have 3.9:1 diffs.

Change that to say a 4.5 or 4.8 and you'll end up probably the same speed, as it has to change a lot more gears.

I've gone from a 4.1 to a 3.58 in my car, barely noticed a difference.

Cars with torque are less affected by diff ratio than cars with no torque.

Oh, that and more than 50% of that time difference would have been made up with the extra grip from LSD.

I'm going to keep my Tacoma as light as possible. I also have a Ford 9" rear with good axles being prepped as well for my increased power. My heads are going to a shop that has a flow bench and builds drag boat motors. Since I'm taking them off during x-mas time I'm hoping a buddy of mine will welcome the extra work and make me a cash deal. I DO NOT want to get beat by any regular vehicles.

What I had thought about first is if you have an Automatic tranny the differential gearing change would want to make the auto tranny shift faster, correct? Wouldn't that slow down times due to the extra shifting involved..No? 1rst, 2nd, 3rd real fast....That probably is not a good thing on a Automatic Lexus tranny...

Also with a little over 400 ft pounds of torque..Maybe a differential gearing change may not be a good idea on a Soarer/Sc400 like mine...What do you guys think?

R200 is the 200mm Radius crown wheel in Nissan Diffs, commonly available in the 300ZX tt.

subarus and datsuns have R160s and R180s.

The Nissan 300zx TT you say? Automatic or Manual? (The R200 I can search for the applications) We have many of those 300zx tt in wreching yards here in the States...I could call around today and pick one up..Tell me pro, how is this differential change done? Will the gearing change bolt up to a LSD supra tt diff as well ?. What do you think it will do to the top speed of the SC400? Don't want to be redlining on the freeway at normal speeds....I will look more into this, thanks Pro, I should have already known this.......Nissan to Lexus, I would have never guessed....
