Camshaft bolt - Metric v Imperial

Just to add fuel to the fire re metric v imperial.

Has anyone tried to purchase the bolt that retains the camshaft sprockets to the camshaft ?
Here in Oz they are special order ex Japan and 6 weeks delivery.
They are 11mm dia (non standard) and this thread size is NOT AVAILABLE in Oz.

Anyone know where I can obtain 12 genuine Toyota items or socket head cap screws 11mm x 1.25 pitch within 2 weeks ?

At least 7/16 unf is obtainable!!

try the wreckers and look at other toyota motors of same ere, chances are they are same, cant imagine they would make a bolt especially for the 1uz?

Not available in Australia, special order only ex Europe and Japan.
Even then it is a non prefered size.

Doubt if they fit anything else or Toyota would have a listing. Must have NEW bolts, not going to trust ANYTHING ex wreckers.

6mm drive pin is max you could fit in the cam.

Why don't you just tap it out to 12 mm metric fine ?

Wish it was that simple, but it's not. Would have to go to 14 mm or 9/16 unf to get full thread engagement.
Both reduce wall section of camshaft where it is most subject to bending load from the pull of the timing belt.

If you need 12 does that mean you're rebuilding 6 engines?

Need bolts for 4 engines at the moment + spares.

Erol, 2UZ bolts are in stock in Chicago - can get them to you in a week or so. Just need to find out if 2UZ cam gear bolts are the same as 1UZ.

Anyone have both a 2UZ and 1UZ and can confirm?
