i bought this car when i was 15 and done it up as i was driving it in my teenage years to what u see in the pics. i recently pulled it out the shed after a couple of years and am thinking of putting a new motor in it, so far the options have been a turbo rotory then sr20det and now a manual carby 1uz.
the reason i would want to go a carby 1uz is because i think i could get a lot more power for halfe the price. Mods would be major porting, valve flow, higher compression, cams, vernier pulleys, extractors, and one or two four barrel carbies(or 4 weber downdraughts). :) plus it will be a manual. what do u guys think i should take the cheaper easier way out and put one of the turbo motors in or spend some more time and money and put the 1uz manual in it and have something that is totally differant to any other escorts and probally have one awsome burnout car.

Hmmmmmm...... lets see.
Ported heads, big valves, springs, cams, buckets....... $10,000
Hi comp pistons ...................................................$ 2,000
4 - Weber IDA's....................................................$ 4,000
Machine, gaskets, brgs etc ....................................$ 2,000

More power for half the price .................................Priceless.

I don't think the 1UZ would pass the Rego authorities in Austrlia.

The car doesn't weigh enough for the UZ conversion.

I'd go the Nissan.

Go with SR20 it has been done heaps of times..
I have fitted many engines into Escorts I have owned way back..
From 1300 Gt , 1600 Webers,1750 webers, 2000 Webers then 289 V8..For rally cross..
Trust me the most fun and best ballance would be the Nissan SR20...
I built another Escort using the Mazda 2.6 Bravo efi engine...With Ford rocker cover etc...

sorry mate but those prices are nothing compaired to what i would pay. porting the heads would be me down my uncles engineer shop getting him to do it for free, 4 weber's i could second hand for around 800 - 1000 dollars, all gaskets and pistons i get cost price cause i am a parts interperater. manifolds and mounts and modifications are just time in the shed with the welder and grinder.

Sorry, I thought you said you were going to get a lot more power ?

ok well besides the carby or injected option i think ill be going the sr20det cause i can get a motor and box of a mate with everything including a after market manifold and bigger turbo for $1500. but i think i will still do it one day as i got a mk1 escort shell in perfect condition waiting for a motor to :)
