Megasquirt can run the duel distributers if you use the MSextra firmware. My set up uses all the stock ignition setup. You should be able to just disconect the injectors from the factory ecu, but you would still need all the sensors including the MAF. With what you are doing I would go with...

cribbj, the tech edge units will to the basics you described straight out of the box with no configuring required. Just need to do the free air calibration like any other brand. Even my DIY version worked with no configuring after I assembled it. Cheers Daniel.

Megasquirt or Other aftermarket ECU. Otherwise it could be possible with some custom electronics etc but by time you mess around with that then you would be better off with a new ecu.

If set up correctly LED's should last almost forever. They should only fail if used outside of there ratings.

I would try a larger resistor first. Maybe start with something like 1000ohms. A 40ohm resistor with potentialy 12V accross it migh get a bit hot. Just buy a few different sizes, 1/2 watt resistors are cheap.

That Jaycar kit might work if it can devide the signal down the correct amount. Let us all know if it works.
