hey,
during my brainstorming seesions I have at work at bout 2am, I have come up with a (most probably crazy/insane) idea. As we all know catalytic convertors work when they are warm, and to get them warm ASAP most major car manufactures put the cat as close as they can to the exhaust ports (just have a look at http://www.lextreme.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1555). Now sticking with this idea on my turboed V8, I'm thinking I could use 2 cats (one for each bank) bolted onto the headers before the turbo. I've probably gone overboard, but anyway it's just an idea and some feedback would be nice.
P.S. dont be too offensive

Couple of issues:

1. Exhaust restriction before turbo - Not a good idea
2. Long exhaust means heat lost - Not a good idea
3. Possible Turbo sits too low - Not a good idea

The cats are intended to reduce the emissions from the exhaust.

Whilst I am not an enviromental vandal I (although I drive V8's and hot 6's)wonder why are we so worried about the emissions when are cars will run cleaner after our conversions/modifications than before.

My view is as long as we comply with the law we are fine.

Cats? what cats? the only cats i ever have on my car are the neighbours little mongrels that have been known to scratch my paint work...
(theyll only do it once more... believe me)

God I love some of New Zealands laws (cats arent compulsary)
