Power Steering

Question for everyone,
My power steering is making a whinding noise now,
Are these motors known for the pumps going?

Could it be because i have just put a new set of rims on and the front is 265 could the width of the tire affect the p/s and break the pump???.

These pumps are well known for leaking and squealing.

The squeal is caused by low fluid, which is caused by a leak, which seems to happen to almost every 1UZ

Be careful because the fluid drips into the alternator, and most of the time, kills it.

Are pumps for these cheap, and is it much of a mission to replace them.?

You didn't mention what car you have. I know about the SC400 (Soarer) but not the LS400. These 2 cars have the same engine but they might not have the same suspension systems.

The pumps are expensive to replace but cheap and quite easy to overhaul.

Have a look around I'm sure there's a tech article on overhauling a pump on this Site.

Thats exactly what i need.
doesnt look to bad to do. i hope it doesnt blow my alternator, cause its brand freakin new.

If in case the steering fluid drops onto the alternator, use the Brake Cleaner and spray it. For the hoses, any hoses with similar shapes will do the job fine, except the pressure hose.
