Hi,

Anybody know how to check if they are working/dead? Running rough and fouling the plugs up, have tried two and both the same. Found an article about measuring resistance across the pins but I am not getting any readings at all.

Cheers for any help

Hi Bushwhacker,

Mine seems to be running a different MAF, wiring different colours. Did check that location for 5v.I am only getting 0.6v Photo of MAF below.

Gave it a good cleaning, cleaned plugs again and fixed damaged vacuum pipe. Now idles a lot smoother and revs well. Ran it up to temperature and test drove up and down road, a whole lot better!

A bit hesitant under hard throttle but fine if gentle, may be an issue with the filter/Bosch 044 fuel pump.

Finally moving forward again, cheers for the help.

Aaaaargh! Rough running/misfire returns.

Getting code 24, 27, 29 and 78. Believe the only one I need to worry about is 24 (Intake air temp sensor?).........any ideas anyone

Cheers

Cleaned the spare MAF and swapped for the old one, still got a misfire. Have covered 60 gentle miles over the last two days. Under a heavier throttle car feels like its running short of a few cylinders and gradually clears and revs then pick up.

No error codes but definitely running rich. So close but yet so far...

Suggestions? Or if anyone has any time available will happily trailer it over for a more expert opinion.

Coming up for a year since the car went to the fabricators running fine and came back running like a dog. Eventually tracked a lot of the issue to the fact that the rack was touching the underside of the gearbox, but has never run right since.....

Cheers

Finally admitted defeat and have taken it to a garage that specialises in Toyota engines. So far one day spent telling me which things are working, nothing that isn't working so far. Air flow meter may be reading incorrectly....might be on the hunt for a third one. Seems odd that the air flow meter has an effect on cylinders 2,5,4 and 1?

Any thoughts? Getting close to buying another running donor car (might be a cheaper option)

Yes swapped out all the usual suspects. Back from the garage as they cant find the problem, but managed to damage a knock sensor.

Had the inlet manifolds off to sort out and gave it a good clean and new gaskets. Did find a leak in the egr valve gasket so replaced that as well. All back together but now throwing a code 14.....guess I have a loose connector somewhere?

Have you or the workshop had a scan tool connected? To check things like oxygen sensors cycling , TPS spanning correctly , temp showing correct etc. Have you checked the Caps inside the ECU?
Have you checked the earths are fine , all the way back to the ECU?
Have you tried unplugging the alternator?
What fuel pressure is it running?

Rechecked all the connections and engine firing up and running.

Going to get a pressure gauge to check fuel, running a Bosch 044 so should be more than adequate for a stock motor. But will test it...

Garage told me they checked signals from sensors and all seems ok, they were concerned about the MAF, but have another one on its way to me.

Reverted back to the original ECU.

Definitely running better and driveable although still hesitant on hard throttle or when trying to pull uphill from a standing start.

Hopefully get the pressure check and new MAF this week and see how that goes. Fingers crossed

On a positive note, interior finished, car painted and put back together. One day it will run as good as it looks

To be honest they were a bit sketchy as to what they did, hence getting the car back from them. Still hoping to find someone (in the UK) who can sort out the issues. While I am fairly handy with spanners/welder when I comes to things electrical it seems like double Dutch to me, I have the feeling I will do more harm than good.
