Inside a DOHC valve cover at 14,000rpm

This from a BMW S1000RR motorcycle engine running over 14,000rpm.
You can see the valve springs rotating and be amazed that parts move this quickly. Remember, each valve even equals a cylinder filling with air or the exhaust leaving. 118 times per second!!!

Valve springs take some punishment even with very light
weight valve train..

Yes, if you rev the engine too high ... the springs will spin !!

It's unreal how the technology in a reciprocating engine has progressed without changing the basic principles from a hundred or even two hundred years ago. Messr's Otto & Watt would be proud.

Sometimes it does go a little wrong, however (this is from a local Lambo Murci motor whose cam timing was a "little" off)
