Hello 1UZFE ppl, we are shoehorning this beast of an engine into our 2000 Jeep Wrangler. It seems that this has not been done as we cannot find much info. We have the engine running in the Jeep, and now we are trying to get the auto to work. It seems to be stuck in 1st gear. From what we've read, it needs the signal from the speed sensor at the back of the auto trans. The challenge is that we had to remove that housing to allow for the Jeep transfer case to be fitted. The Jeep uses a 3 wire speedo sensor on the transfer case, but we think the signals are different. We've tried to connect the Jeep sensor, but it does not seem to trigger the ecu to change gear. Even if we manually shift the trans with the shift lever, it will NOT change out of 1st. There may be issues which we are not aware of. We'd like to hook up the OD light to tell us if the trans is getting the signals it needs, but have not been able to find info. Sorry for the long post, but it's been driving us crazy.

The ECU needs two load signals for the trans to shift. TPS and speed. No speed sensor no shift. To confirm the box is ok I would unplug the solenoid plug and it should allow you to select 1 ,2 and OD moving the shifter. If the box is fine then I would be installing the UZ speed sensor correctly. There are a few 1uz jeeps over here that Ive worked on now. OD light connection should be on your diagrams. There might be other issues of you don't have good info to work with.

Thanks gloverman, we do NOT have very much info about the wiring for the auto trans, we're not sure which plug is the one for the solenoids, we will have a look for info.
At the moment the BATT pin and the IGSW are wired together with all the other 12V positives, could this be why the check engine light will not work?

Just a hint - for the engine to run correctly and for the check light to function accurately the ECU must be wired correctly. Wiring it the way you have is fine for a quick run up on the floor but it will be causing issues for you such as correct idle function and check code output. I sell instructions on how to wire these engine correctly but there are diagrams available on these site in the tech section. Solenoid plug is the large plug at the back LH side of your trans. If your ecu is soarer or SC400 then it should have 6 pins , if your ECU is crown then it should have 8 pins. There are some differences between the sc400 and crown ECU wiring. The other big plug would be the selector switch (RH side). Front two pin in the Overdrive speed sensor , rear two pin is the main speed sensor (SP2)(this is the one you don't have. There is also a three pin VSS on the stock box which is for the instrument cluster.
