Hey,

So it's starting to get hot up here in QLD and I need to sort out my AC system.
My Hilux is a 1995 4x4 RN105R which had AC originally but some of the piping was removed when I had the conversion done. 1UZ is from a UZZ31

Would I be able to use the condenser/receiver dryer from a Toyota surf? If not;

What reciever dryer have people used?
Which condensor?
Where do I mount the condenser as I have hardly any space in front of the radiator.

If anyone has any pics of how they've done it, that would be great

Cheers

I refitted the A/C to a 1KZ-TE Surf with a VVTi 1UZ.
I managed to fit a 16" electric fan on the engine side of the 1KZ radiator which allowed the A/C condenser and fan to go back in their original positions.
I used the Surf's dryer as well and gave it a polish.

I'll leave the plumbing/gassing to an A/C specialist.

Use hilux stuff as its more easily available than surf especialy the surf that has the 2.4ltr as its underneath the front of the vehicle. the only real mods that will need to be done is the suction and discharge hose off the compressor the rest should remain the same.

Cheers for the info guys. Bushwhacker, I don't think I have any chance to fit mine in the original location as my thermo fans are on the front side of the car and I don't have enough space to have them on engine side..

Does the radiator still get plenty of air with the condenser infront of radiator?

1UZVL, I currently still have the hilux receiver dryer in it but need to buy another condenser. I'll most likely have to get a slightly different one than standard so would it matter if the fittings on the condenser are different? I'm sure the AC specialist will be able to plumb it up

the RD will be now useless, it will need replacing but arent expensive. You realy dont have alot of space with hiluxs so your options are very limited if fans are in the space the condensor used to live. No chance of moving them so you can get the condensor in. You can buy universal condensor of many different sizes so getting something shouldnt be that hard. wont be to hard to pipe it up, they come mostly with #6 and #8 fittings but you can get some that use a pad style fitting as the orginals did.

Fair enough so I will need to purchase a receiver dryer that was originally fitted to my hilux? I've got a big alloy radiator which does an awesome job but unfortunately uses the condensers space..

Does it matter how big the condenser is? I should be able to squeeze one down a little lower to where the original condenser sat.

Plan is to mount the receiver dryer/condenser then get an AC specialist out to plumb everything
