    Lex,

    What capacity will this give?

I'm not interested in ordering a set but it would be interesting to know.

Hmmm, David are you taking trades?

I've got a set of those Ross 8.5:1 pistons from the last GP, but REALLY wanted 9.5:1's (like you're doing this time).

Anyone want a brand new, never OOTB set of 8.5:1 Ross's w/rings and pins?

    John
p.s. David, instead of offering just the reciprocating assembly, why don't you offer this as an exchange based short block deal? I'd just as soon have everything fitted and finished in my block, and I'd rather have someone stand behind the honing if we're going 0.015 over (that 0.0015" was a typo in your email I assume?)

Competitive and I talked about it, but shipping might be an issue. Complete short block would be great for local buyers, but out of the country might not be feasible. However, complete instruction on boring and honing will be provided.

I am not involved with this GP, I personally dont need any more forged internals... but lots of members mp me with it.

8:5.1 is sorta low for the setup i wanna run, I think the 9:5.1's will go good with a mild think head gasket!

A bare 1UZ block can't weigh much more than 20 or 30 kilos, so I wouldn't think it's going to add that much to the cost of shipping all this other stuff. The crank is what's going to cost the money, and IMHO, it would be far better to have it shipped, already mounted in a block than loose, and take the chance that it'll arrive banged up.

I'd think a lot of people here would jump at an attractive deal on an exchange short block. Not a $5000 "deal", but a reasonably priced one.... And it would sure take some of the unknowns out of the equation for someone else to handle the honing of those liners within an RCH of their limits.

why use less compression only to have to run the turbo harder? Its a win/lose situation either way. Higher compression less boost, lower compression more boost. Wear out the motor or the turbo either way lol... so i've found out.

    John,

We can offer that. I would also do u a favor by ordering your differently. I know u have vvti heads and if you can send me a bondo of your vvti head chamber, i can ask Ross to make one set especially for you. However, we need the number to go up so we can offer a direct short block exchange.

The price will be slightly higher now because of cleaning the block, boring and honing the block and assembly too. Shipping and handling will be higher because of the size and weight.

Thx David, that's kind of you. On the VVTi heads, I doubt that I'll use them, and will probably stay with the heads from my early motor; controlling the VVTi stuff just seems too complicated. I wish one of the RSG's (Real Smart Guys) here would hurry up and map it and prove that the aftermarket ECU's will handle it OK (hint, hint TurboAndrew).
I for one will be very interested to know the exchange price for this short block. It sure solves a number of unknowns very neatly.

I have been doing alot of research and i am doing one myself. However, we all can benefit if we can get a group buy going. Chevy Forged H Beam Rods with ARP L 19 is rated 1200 hp. Slight mod on the crank and rods to make it work. A set of custom pistons will be the icying on the cake.

We can get a group buy together on the pistons and get your own Chevy rods. They are very cheap. I have been pricing on them. Eagles ESP 3D with ARP L 19 bolt is about $550 or so. You can find some cheap CAT forged H Beam rods for late 200s.

With this combo, i will be using Chevy rod bearings and Lexus OEM Main and thrust bearings.

Im in for a set of pistons to hang on those eagle rods, 100% IN!!!!! This really does seem to be a great way to build the motor. Those rods are very affordable, all we need is a group buy on the pistons and we are set for a 1000HP 1UZ : - D
