Hello!
and i tried to run My 1UZ-FE VVT-i soarer with AEM EMS.

at the moment i have: all system are working well,
Engine is running well, but second (right VVT-i) is not working, but mechanically it works well

i can't find the mistake in cal of AEM EMS. (wiring checked number of times, hardware mods were made in AEM - i am an engineer and know how it works)

the engine has full stock crank 36-2 sensor and stock 3 teeth cams.
stat synchronization well.

what did you done to driving both VVT-i???
may be you modified cams from 3 teeth to 1 tooth?

please send me your cal file if it is possible

(PM for email address)

ps: i wired left cam sensor for CAM, right sensor for SPEED (AEM user guide)
left VVT solenoid for INJ#9 Right for INJ#10

pps: please find my general settings in attachment

best regards, Alexander

Done. BTW, PM or email our member MitchP.

He's an ex-AEM design/support engineer and has the cal files for this.

Hello guys!

i have resolved this problem. the mistake was in cam range parameters.
the left one should be app .7 teeth, the left one should be 1.33.

both of Cams start working well.

but it is the appox. because i can tune AEM because new problem found.

after 20 min of idling the engine stops... after that i tried to crank it, but STAT SYNC'D isn't coming.

i think that the problem in heating of CAM and CRANk sensors.
resistors that i putted to the AEM are:
Crank sensor 8.5 kOM
Cam sensor (left head) 8.5 kOm
Speed sensor (right head) 8.5 kOm

i think that the second reason is incorrect advancing of VVT cams.

any idea?

Here's a 1UZ VVTi calibration from a TT GS400 with the VVTi working and no cam/crank/stat sync'd issues.

Typically, I will use 4K7 pull down resistors for the cam & crank sensor inputs.

Calibration also uses LS1 output to control ACIS intake manifold valve.

LMK if you have questions.

Thank you guys!

i will be really happy, if we will meet)
thank you MitchP, today i will try to use your sync principles.

but i think that the problem is in hardware. the comparator lm2901 can work unstable or can be damaged i think. i want to replace it in the AEM and try to get sync again.

it is because the signals of cams which i logged are trash... but signal of crank is the ideal one.

to Arnout! thats great that you can speak Russian) where are you come from?

i have interesting car that you can see here:

ps: today i hope that i will try get sync again

to Arnout: привет) ты хочешь приехать к нам в россию? было бы просто супер)

comparator lm2901 changed for new one, but problem is not resolved....

AEM can't calculate cam teeth correctly...

i'm in sad...

the is no problem with comparator....

next step is rewiring of all sensors, grounds and power supply ...

I'm having a similar problem with my '91 1UZFE, the cam sensor stops giving a signal below 600RPM and above 5-6000RPM when it gets warm which is ok while driving but means that if I turn off the engine (or it stalls) then I can't start it until it's cooled down (seems to take about 50mins with the bonnet open). Also, if I've done a longer journey including some motorway it stalls while idling. I have a megasquirt and have tried to find a way around it but using the other cam sensor makes it run like crap as the stock ECU doesn't like having no signal.

all problems resolved, AEM EMS works fine. all functions working well

my problem was inside AEM, protection diode in 5v circuit was blown.

thank again!
