Ah - if only it were that simple...
When I removed the manifold I found the knock sensor wiring had been bodged up - googling shows that the wiring loom to it is a common fault and the harness is no longer available and whilst it was working ok its coated in copper grease so I'd like to fix it properly although having seen the price, I'm not paying for an OEM sensor !
I also listened to a 1UZ "expert" who told me whilst I was there to grease up the back of the starter - google showed some starters have gears at the back so it didn't seem a dumb suggestion - except I took it apart to find there are no gears at the back.
TBH if I have to remove it again I think I could do it in 30 mins so I might just leave it alone.
